“By taking pictures and images of different kinds from a long ways away, we can tell what needs to be done and go do it,” says Dr. Brent Auvermann a professor with Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Amarillo, TX. The center is testing a concept utilizing sUAS / Drones with thermal cameras to find livestock that is sick and needs antibiotic treatment. The thought is the thermal camera can identify feverish animals, single them out, then give only the ones that need the medication treatment, limiting the number of drugs, saving money while increasing the amount of drug-free meat on the market.
